A 5 hour flight with a 3 year old and a 1,5 year old, anyone have any advice what to bring to keep them happy?

Wow! Sounds ambitious - and brave! There are a couple things you can do to try to make the trip a bit easier.

Make sure they wear comfortable clothes and that you have a change on board for each of them.

Bring a surprise bag for each of them filled with toys, games, books, puzzles, crafts and things that they like. Don't give it all to them at the same time. Bring out new stuff during the trip to keep it exciting.

Bring a DVD player and a couple of their favorite flicks (or ones they have been wanting to see - new releases).

Get up and walk up and down the aisles throughout the flight with them.

If it is overseas flight - chances are you will be flying overnite. Bring a favorite blanket and security object if necessary.

Bring some healthy snacks that they like. Airline food isn't always the best and it is a good idea to keep their little tummies full. I don't recommend sugar though!

Try to get a bulk head seat section so you have a little more leg room. Depending on the carrier, you might have to wait until you check in to ask for this - but call the air line and submit the request anyway.

Good luck and have a good trip!

Some good advice already.
Definitly a back back with a change of clothes and some snacks, new toys from a dollar store they haven't seen before.
No matter what though, they're going to be excited. Try to get a window seat and point out things they can see, when you can take them for short walks down the aisles, take them to the bathroom to wash their hands ( I know it's cramped). Explain to them about the flight and rules before hand, so they know what to expect.
If you get a meal served you can request kid meals when booking your flight.
I would not recommend any type of tranquilizers, you never know how your child will react.

Most doctors will give you a small tranquilizer for the children for taking just before you get on the plane. All the toys and candy in the world will not keep young children happy on a plane for 5 hours.

go to the dollar store and pick out a few small toys for the kids. keep them out of sight until the flight that way they'll be new and interesting. the 5 year old might like coloring books, or a gameboy or something. SNACKS SNACKS SNACKS airport food is expensive, and snacks will also keep them busy. travel games, BOOKS, and/or maybe a walkman or something. some cash, just in case, and lolly pops or gum to keep their ears from popping.

make sure your stuff's not too heavy (i.e. paperbacks instead of hard back...)

Positively a dvd player.Try to get some new movies they haven't seen before and don't let her see them until you put them in on the plane. I promise that will be the BEST thing. Don't forget earphones.
Next is books.
Interactive games.
I would definately try to bring some new items or toys they don't have at home just for the plane trip.
