PC World setup a partition on the drive for the Windows software. They call it the 'recovery' partition. Its basically useless unless you need to do a complete re-install, in which case they kindly provide the License key for your Windows copy with the PC.
If you need to install windows components or anything else, the only way to get a round it is borrow someone else's XP cd (as it doesn't need to be any license copy or version, merely the files) or take it to PC world and ask them to do whatever it is you require the CD for.
They do it to cover themselves from complaints by Microsoft about breach of copyright and licensing etc...

Some computer companies give you a recovery disk instead of the Windows CD. You can actually request one if you feel more comfortable with the Windows CD, but the recovery disk usually does the same job except it also installs all your drivers and whatever else you had when you bought your computer.
It basically restores it to factory settings back to when you first got your computer.

A lot of major retailers don't provide the original disk when you buy a new system because of copyright. Microsoft don't want you to have the disk because they think you will copy it so if you have to do a full re-install your out of luck unless PC World will do one for you but they will probably charge.

you'll have got a recovery disc, which is better for the average user, as they dont need to bother installing sound card drivers, graphics card drivers etc...
if you get 3 discs like i did with ma laptop then everything will be on the discs
but if u only get one, like i did with mi pc, then the recovery files may be on your hard drive. it was with mine, called retten.exe
i deleted em by accident, and mi comp crashed a month or 5 after.
had to buy a windows xp disc and load all the drivers off the recovery disc.
really annoyin lol

Call in person to PC World and ask for a windows xp disc.
Do not use the phone.
If they can not provide one, ask them the reason, and FULL instruction about re-installing Windows from scratch.
Trust me you will need the disc or the instructions in about a year's time. What with all the scrum-wares and viruses around.

A lot of manufacturers are not including the Operating system disc with new computers and having the person burn one when you first boot up. If you skipped this option, try calling the manufacturer and see if they can walk you through creating the disc.

As of January a million Microsoft will no longer sell OEM variations of XP to computing gadget makers. Dell won't sell a working laptop or computing gadget without an working equipment.
