Welfare is there for ANY American who may lose his or her job, or become injured/incapacitated for any reason. The war In Iraq is now supposedly about freeing IRAQIS of Saddam and "spreading democracy." This is of NO BENEFIT to the American people! Are you saving on gas now that American oil companies are controlling the oil there, or are you paying MORE THAN EVER (by controlling the oil, you can restrict its distribution and cause the value and price to rise)? Are the persky terrorists all killed, or are there more terrorists then ever and angry Iraqis killing American "invaders?"
Sorry but I do NOT want to pay a single penny to fund a cause that is not benefiting the average American, but rather benefits private enterprise and supposedly the Iraqi people.

Lucky you. I guess you'd have to actually be down in the dumps to have any empathy for others. Fortunately, I don't have that problem.

Hypocrites, then why are you not all calling for war with North Korea? And not just now, but YEARS ago! North Koreans are suffering from political oppression, starvation, and the treat of a crazed leader than makes Iraq pale in comparison! But no, you are not and were NEVER concerned with the need to spread democracy to North Korea because your government and media didn't TELL you to be concerned! But you're all for wasting tax dollars for a much smaller threat. It's scary how many mindless sheeps there are in this world! Hitler would have LOVED manipulating you drones!

I feel the exact opposite. I hate that I pay welfare... I am perfectly capitable of investing my own money and making more to fall back on then welfare would ever provide me with.

You are all talking about the welfare program for the poor. sure there have bee abuses, but welfare has been changed by law so much that it is harder to get on, you can't stay on long. And it pays so little you really can't live on it. I'm for giving a helping hand, that's part of the cost of living in a free society. But the welfare I don't want to pay for is the corporate welfare. More money is given to corporations then to human welfare recipients. 10 Billion dollars to the drug companies for the Medicaid boondoggle. Tax subsidies to the oil industry for exploration. And since oil is above $55 a barrel, they no longer have to pay royalties on the oil they pump on federal land. A corporation will give $100,000 dollars to somebodies campaign and then realize $10 millions dollars in corporate welfare. That's a good investment. We as a country can do better then that! And occupying a country in the Middle East is a good way to spend our tax dollars. The is so much fraud with the contracts there. Did you know that $9,000,000,000.00 disappeared in Iraq. This was a pallet of cash in bricks big enough to be since from a spy satellite. It just plum disappeared! Think of how much good we could of done in this country with that money, And last time I looked, the Middle East wasn't exactly a peaceful place!

If you don't think that any good will come from a Middle East where the people have the choice to make their governments, then you are beyond hope. But, just like you, I too don't wish to pay for certain programs that the U.S. government currently funds; like welfare. "Sorry but I do NOT want to pay a single penny to fund a cause that is not benefiting the average American, but rather" keeps them in poverty by giving them an excuse to settle for government aid. There is a distinct minority of people on welfare who actually get off of it in good standing. Personally, I am sick of paying for people who abuse a system that was meant to help people forward, not hold them back.

You are correct. Welfare should be there when needed. That however has become the exception not the rule. It is now a program of expected entitlements for some families who have been living on it for generations. There are too many people who have become part of what I refer to as modern day slavery to the government. This is no longer a hand up. Its a hand out program, and most feel they are entitled. So until I see extreme reforms in this program, I will compare tax dollars wasted to tax dollars wasted.

I'm sorry you are so clueless. It is helping the average american by creating a democracy in the middle east. If it is successful it will benifit the US in many ways. Having in a friend in that area is best for us. What about the people there? Don't they have a right to be free? Those of us that have, are we not obligated to help the have nots? Just because it doesn't benifit you at this moment doesn't make it bad.

Welfare was created to help people experiencing financial hardship. I pay my taxes and by golly, if I am in financial need, I'm gonna use every service available.
I only have one issue about your argument--the spread of democracy is beneficial to Americans as well as others. Lots of reasons behind it, economic, ecological, political. Google Milosevic or Hitler.

I dont think they are the same thing, but they both do fight a never ending battle.
Welfare, by just giving money never fix anything.
Only a very small portion of the people on Welfare, truley needs it, most others should be working.

welfare is for broke down poor bastards who DON'T want to work. unemployment is for people who lose their jobs. cuz essentially we are fighting someone elses war with our money and they will reap the benefits of it. they will control the oil and we will be at their mercy and when it comes time to repay or thank us for saving their cowardly lazy as*ses, what do you think they'll say?
