I was wondering if they work, and how they work. Do they produce melanin by themself, or do you still have to sunbathe and they simply help you achieve a tan quicker?

Hello Dear, there are plenty of exclusive brands that offer Deep Tan pills.One of the best I know are those of the French origin, called Phyto Plage capsules, they contain apart from the other on the market procianidoles,which by itself have multiple benefits for the health.First, take into account that they prepare the skin and supply it with all the needed possible ingredients,which facilitate the obtaining of gorgeous and more durable tan. They do not produce melatonin by themself,of course, and you must have to sunbathe at any rate. The main ingredient which are vital for achieving great tan are Vitamin A( beta carotene), Vit. E, Vit. C and Selenium..Hope that answer will help you..Best of luck!!

"DEEPTAN will enable you to have a beautiful dark golden tan without exposing yourself to hours of damaging UV rays which can cause burning, premature aging and even skin cancer. Based on years of modern research our scientifically formulated tablets enable your body to produce more melanin, a natural pigment. The more melanin you have the darker your tan. DEEPTAN will not give you a dyed fake orange tan usually associated with other tanning tablets and messy creams, but a natural dark golden tan. Now for the first time ever it is possible for you to very conveniently have a 'just back from vacation' look all year round. DEEPTAN will provide a deeptan within 10-14 days. If you are fair skinned and find it difficult to tan than DEEPTAN is ideal for you."

I wouldn't take this crap. There's nothing anywhere telling you how much of what is in this. It could be cyanide for all anyone knows.

Here's something that I found;

" * Dicalcium Phosphate
* Microcrystaline Cellulose
* Di-alpha Tocopheryl Acetate Prep
* Para Amino Benzoic Acid
* L-Tyrosine
* Stearic Acid
* Zinc Gluconate
* Beta Carotene"

But no information on how much of what is in it, again. So I'm leaning towards that one chick's vitamin A statement,

Those pills are an overdose of Vitamin A, which will give you an orange hue. No melanin involved. They can be pretty dangerous, as your body stores excess vitamin A; you don't pee it out like you do excess vitamin C.

Instead use a sunless tanning cream. Be sure to exfoliate well first, esp. your feet, knees, and elbows. Safer and looks more natural.

I wouldn't even risk it. These days, too many people fall for schemes claiming to do wonders (weight loss etc.). No pill is going to make you tan, although some prescription drugs will make you more susceptible to burn in the sun.

I've heard of it but never tried it. It seems unnatural to take something orally that changes your skin color. But the same could be said about eating lots of carrots which changes your skin color to orange.
