The USB PCI card is be the best answer, and it's easier to install than most think. Just open the CPU case, and slide it in. As simple as that. There might be some software to install as well, but it all should take you less than 10 min.

You can not upgrade the ports currently in the machine. You can, however, purchase a PCI card which is USB 2.0. You can get them at any electronics store. Should only run you $20 or so.

No...sorry its in the hardware...you wouldn't need to though...all USB periferrals are back compatible with 1.0
