Would anyone care what they did? If they were a Muslim State fighting with Muslims in Palestine or Lebanon, would Iran or Syria or anyone else on the planet really care?

Don't go there, this is not a Jewish , or Muslim bashing entry, I'm just asking a simple question.

Even if say Palestine was given to not Jews but Muslims after ww2, do you think the other Muslim countries would care? I wondering if it's not so much the land being taken away, but who it was given to is the problem many have.

A large root of the problem is religious, so I'm not sure this conflict would even exist.

There is also the fact that Israel has removed the rights of Palestinians during their occupation, and the historic, non-religious, animosity.

As far as the "Would we do anything if it was Muslim vs. Muslim?" part of your question. If it destablized the region and threatened our oil supplies - yes. If either of the countries was an ally of ours while the other wasn't so close - yes.

You're right in it being about *who* the land was given to. There can be no peace in the Middle East until all of the Arab nations accept the right of Israel to exist or succeed in destroying her.

The Ottoman Empire (1299-1923) which controlled the region was Islamic, but generally tolerant of non-Muslims -- it gladly took in ~95,000 Jews who had been expelled from Spain in 1492 -- and the populations were relatively intermixed. The idea of nation or state as we know didn't really exist there.

After WWI, the UK and France divied the region up amongst themselves, creating artificial boundaries and installing rulers of their choosing. The UK had control of the area known as the Mandate of Palestine. In 1917, some 7/8s of it became Jordan. When the UK abandoned the region altogther, it divided the remainder up into Jewish and Arab states.

The Jews accepted their state and declared themselves the State of Israel. The NEXT DAY the neighbouring Arab nations -- who never agreed to the division because they didn't want Israel to exist at all -- invaded Israel.

So if the Arab and Muslim governments would accept the existence of Israel, we wouldn't be having this problem.

Probably not!

A better question to pose is if Israel was bombing a let's say a European country like Belgium, assuming that Belgium sponsored a terrorist group that captured soldiers, the way it's bombing Lebanon. The UN would have stepped in by now and they would get punished and sanctioned for their actions for killing civilians and be tried for war crimes.

You are forgetting that the Israelis, regardless of their religion, are foreigners. They have pushed the native people, the palestinians, out of palestinian land. It is not a question of wether they are jewish or muslim, but that they are invaders. If a group of muslim indonesians came in and stole Palestinian land, the same thing would be happening.

The jews have only been in Israel since the end of wwII unfortunately they are in the wrong. Everyone in American seems to believe that Israel has been established since the beginning. And that is not accurate at all.

Imagine if mexican's moved here illegally would we be okay with that?

There's always a double standard when it comes to Israel. You're right, if it was muslim on muslim cutting each others heads off no one would care.

I don't think religion has anything to do with it...cause christians and muslims have been living in peace there for a very long time... its the matter of israel occupying the palestinian lands...thats the problem...

I agree with Majestic One, they would have been put an end to it. And if it was muslim fighting muslim unless they had something to gain they wouldn't care one bit.

They don't seem to really care much now if you ask me, just as long as they can get the Americans out.

If there was not Jewish state then the palestines would still be nomads! Then the other arab nations would still be attacking the palestians like they did befor Isreal became a nation again.

When the Ottomans were there know one cared - it only became a hot topic when the Jews came back and rejuvenated it - It's like any successful business people always want a piece of it.
