Don't the WC winners automatically qualify for the next WC...maybe I am wrong...anyways, players can't play for ever. They know when their minds, and bodies tell them it's time to go. He has been a great competitor and I am fairly sure many will be sad to see him go. However if that is his decision good luck to him in the future and his decision should be respected. No need to mock Cannavaro, he is one of the good guys.

um...I did laughed my lmao after knowning that more than half (65%-70%) of the Italian team members are not coming back for 2010. With the scandals from their clubs, don't know which new breeds is under development. But, Italy gets automatic qualification in 2010. Let's hope that they won't even get through round 16 in 2010 (younger players needs more experience to deservely win the world cup). And I also wish they will fail in the qualifying round for EURO 2008 begins next month, b/c they are playing against France. By then, French should know what strageies to use against the Italians, esp. they have the same players on the field.
and by the way, Cannarvo is not retiring, he just signed with Real Madrid. But he is 32...by 2010...36... don't think that's a good age to be on the field... Even though I don't like the Italians, but I am inspired by Cannarvaro's effort and enthusiasm he putted for the Italian team.

are you psychotic?
So, if Cannavaro retires [because he'll be 36 by the time the WC 2010 comes along, at least he's playing Euro 2008], we still have NESTA. FORGOT ABOUT HIM, LOSER? We thought that in 82', on how 'we'll never win a WC again, because Dino Zoff was too old'.. turned out wrong, eh? AND WE ALSO SAID WHEN MALDINI RETIRED, THAT WE'LL NEVER QUALIFY.. LOOKEE HERE! WE CAME FAR!! Totti said he might retire.. but I SERIOUSLY doubt that. Can you name me who else is gonna retire?

Yes, I think they will still qualify. They had a pretty young squad this world cup and a lot of them retired in style after winning a world cup.

first of all....he did not. and i will refuse to believe that he did.
plus david beckham stepped down at the leader. OMG DOES THAT MEAN ENGLAND WILL NEVER BE GOOD ANYMORE AND QUALIFY?!
HAHAHAHAHAHA.
um excuse me. no. heck for all we know they could be 10x as better. people retiring and stepping down happens for a reason. a reason called letting others get a chance. aka another chance for the team to get better and experience different techniques.
