Prevention costs A LOT less than treatment. Plus, it can be instituted on a mass scale. For people who do not have access to good health care or insurance, community prevention programs can better their health at a reasonable cost. It also helps prevent other social issues in the long run like the spread of STDs and AIDS, obesity, malnutrition, and even crime in a way. It's a great way to get kids on the right path, health wise, and help parents with little education on the subject to keep their kids healthy. Keeping healthy to begin with is way better than fixing a problem that could have been prevented. Often, the only reason people don't take the necessary steps to prevent illness is lack of education and preventive programs can easily provide that.

Prevention is much more rewarding than treatment.
Ask anyone who had a stroke or heart attack; they suddenly start exercising and watching their diet.
