why does a potential employer have to do a consumer report on me? criminal background check i understand, but a consumer report? i'm not borrowing money from them, i'm providing labor.

Unfortunately a lot of employers think if you have bad credit that you will be a bad worker. OR if the job is handling money or items of value that you may steal them to pay delinquent bills.
