I f he can bring sponsorship to his team then yes he deserves a seat, just the same as the Japanese drivers do.
Lets be honest it's not just about ability.

Firstly, may I say that I am biased - I was a big fan of his father's and followed Jacques when he raced for CART (when joining F1 was a figment of his imagination!)
It will be very sad if he leaves F1 again - after all, he is only the third driver (after Emmerson Fittipaldi and Mario Andretti) to win the CART championship, the Indy 500 and the F1 championship - he is not just a pretty face; he has talent as well! I am not just relying on history - he still drives extremely well. In Bahrain, he had an engine failure. In Canada he drove into a wall when he got on the marbles while overtaking RSc (okay, so maybe that might have been him!) and, in the US, his engine let him down again. How much faith do you think he has in his car if the engine keeps blowing?!
Whatever happens, I have a feeling that money will be involved in the outcome!
It will be very interesting next season if Montoya and Villeneuve are racing against each other in NASCAR!
**************
however, here is what JV said himself:
Villeneuve himself could yet join Montoya in NASCAR after confirming he would consider the switch when his Formula One days come to an end.
He has experience of oval racing from his time in the US-based CART series, winning on the famous oval at Indianapolis in 1995, and feels he could quickly become competitive again.
"I have raced in a lot of categories so I can adapt to anything, I've raced on ovals," he added.
"NASCAR has always looked very exciting. It's great racing so it is something I would look at if there's no Formula One."
But Villeneuve has no intention of leaving Formula One at the end of the year, claiming he is a bargain for any team willing to offer him one last drive.
"Some older drivers are cheap - cheaper than drivers who have not won races," he said.
"I'm very good value for money. I would prefer five teams fighting over me but that is not the case. It seems that experience is not wanted."
However, the 1997 world champion will not stay on in the sport at any cost, insisting: "I don't want to drive for Super Aguri."

One of the BMW drivers will surely be kicked out by test driver Robert Kubica at the end of the season. I don't know which one, but the axe seems to be hanging above Villeneuve's head. This is because Kubica has proved himself way too many times, during testing, worthy of a racing seat.

JV deserves to drive for BMW far more than Nick Journeyfeld or Kubica.
Put JV in a half decent car, and he'll give you results you wouldn't expect. That cant be said about Journeyfeld. Put him in a half decent car, and he'll deliver what you expect.
JV in a macca next year would be good, but it wont happen while that pile of crap Pollock is in charge of JV.
Nobody in their right mind would do business with that rattlesnake.

He comes relatively cheap nowadays and he's not being comprehensively outdriven by Nick Heidfeld, so I think he deserves another year in the BMW-Sauber. Besides, having a (pseudo) Canadian in Formula One, is good for a little ink in Canadian newspapers and puts a few shekels in the pockets of a couple of racing journalists. :-)

too damn right.
jv is a far better driver than nick heidfeld.
heidfeld is another of those drivers who has not quite become the complete package. what is his best result? certainly not likely to trouble the top step of the podium in this lifetime i feel.
villeneuve is a charachter. we desparately need him in f1 since we lost jpm to the u.s. merry go round that is nascar.
its said that jv is extremely difficult to overtake, i believe that is because he knows exactly what to do. if you take say jarno trulli he seems to be overtaken under braking almost every race.
there are drivers in f1 at the moment who do not deserve their seat(heidfeld, klien, speed). then there are drivers on the fringe who deserve a chance (hamilton, kubica, davidson, paffett, justin wilson in a half decent car to name but five).
villeneuve in my opinion deserves at least another season in f.1.
his experience should be seen as vital to bmws development. his quali record is better than n.h. and but for more than his fair share of bad luck this season (going off on the marbles at montreal whilst running in a strong position) his points haul would match heidfeld too.
my gut feeling is bmw will offload him. its our loss though if they do.
jacques is worth keeping if only for his m.c.hammer style overalls.

Yes, he's been consistently in the points for most of the races this year with the exception of the last few. He was almost always in eighth place in every race, you could bank on it for consistency.
My friend told me he's considering going to nascar too. Is that rumour true? Anyone else here that? I hope not.
