If NASA plans to do away with the space shuttle be 2010.(with the international space station being completed).Then how are we going to continue to send people to the space station if the new rockets are only designed to go to the moon?

Both the above are right. The CLV, or Ares I will be a humanrated spacecraft. It will deliver astronauts and supplies to space. The HLV or Ares V will be capable of launching large objects, hence it is a Heavy Lift Vehicle. We will have both orbit and moon exploration abilities with the use of these two spacecraft.

Just because a rocket is designed to be able to go to the Moon does not mean it cannot also go to Earth orbit. Several Apollo missions went to Earth orbit only. Apollo capsules took astronauts to and from America's first space station, Skylab.

Because the new rockets are not only being designed to go to the Moon. The CEV will be capable of doing both.

NASA is currently working on an eventual replacement for the Shuttle, One that will be more reliable and economically feasible.
