My PC is Dell Dimension E510. I am using Shut down, not standby. The windows shows prepair for shut down and then the screen does not show anything, but I an hear the PC power is still on. If I press the button for 5 sec, then it shuts down. I went to Dsiplay Properties Monitor Power but does not have a tab for APM or ACPI. This is windows xp Media Center Edition. BIOS does not have Manual or Auto for shut off.
Thanks.

If you are getting a "it is now safe to turn off your PC" message then your computer bios does not support shut down from operating system. If on the other hand your computer just does not shut off, then it is probably waiting to close down processes and can not do so. This can often be due to spyware, so I would run a scan.

Is your pc is an old model with a mechanical type of power switch (that remains in the depressed state when switched on like an electrical switches)? Then it wont. Otherwise check ACPI is enabled in the BIOS, also check power option in the screen saver tab of Display properties.

u have probably set as standby mode. The next time when u turn off the pc, make sure it's shut down instead of standby mode.

Good Luck!

You probably have other stuff running on your computer. Make sure that is off. Depending on the version of windows and your computer it may not be an automatic process. Check your ownerts manual or go to the manufacturers web site

It is probably in hibernate or sleep mode, does it come back on when you move your mouse? It should, for it to shut down, you have to shut it down!
