Do the Mexican's have a guy like David Letterman who just ruthlessly pokes fun of their Government and J-Lo?

Do the Japanese laugh at jokes about Emperor Akihito?

Or is this just a USA phenomenon?

Heck no, all countries where it isn't banned do that. The UK is especially known for it. Check out their main tabloid:

The famous, rich and powerful are the butt of jokes in EVERY society - and have been, throughout history.

Where do you think April Fool's Day came from?

How various people are satirized and caricatured varies from society to society. In North Korea, many people think their leader is a foolish, dangerous joke - but they don't dare say so. Instead, in the darkness of the night, posters appear as by magic on doors, walls, bridges and other public places.

On the other hand, every Punch and Judy marionette show in England at some point includes crude and tasteless - and very funny - jokes about public figures.

So - no, this is hardly an American phenomenon. And, in fact, Americans are actually more restrained than many other peoples.

I can't speak for any of the other countries, but I have to say that we Americans do it because it's just so damned easy! Look at who's in power right now! Granted, ANYBODY is fair game for ridicule in the US, but George W. Bush is probably the best thing that ever happened to the likes of David Letterman.

Mexicans NEED to laugh at the guys in charge. Yes, here you'll see TV shows mocking them. And many radio programms that are really harsh to them in their jokes.
but even if they were not allowed to do that... government guys are so pathetic that only watching the news would make you laugh.
