Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the Naruto manga, did say that there was going to be some romance after the time-skip. However, Naruto being a manga/anime with action/adventure as the main focus, romance won't be stressed very much.
So far into the series, we've had very little romantic interest between characters. We have Naruto who likes Sakura who in turn liked Sasuke(it's unclear whether she still likes him at this moment). Than we have Hinata who has a crush on Naruto and Lee who likes Sakura. Than there's also a unspoken push toward Shikamaru and Temari as we see them together often times. So far everything has been a one-sided love with small hints of possible pairings so I think it would be far more interesting if romance between two characters actually happens. Having romance in Naruto might displease some people who perfers to action, but overall, I think romance can do some good in showing character interactions and developments.
