To make a long story short, I have two jobs...one at the bank and another I'm a cashier at a retail store. Of course they are two completely different jobs but they are one of the same because they both deal with customers. When I deal with my customers, I like to be knowledgable, friendly, and overall nice and witty. Sometimes I even go out of my way to find out information for my customer learning a little bit more for future reference in the process. Some people say I'm over stepping my boundaries and being goody two shoe but this is just the way that I carry myself, inside and outside of my job. I'm just always eager to learn about people, my job, and everything. Sometimes when I look around, some people just don't seem to take their jobs serious enough...they lack motivation and skills that most people need to perform their job. And of course the professional attitude also...is it just me being a goody two shoe or am I right?

Congrates!! You are an achiever, based on your description of the situation and your feeling towards this matter. As a business owner, i would love to have you in my staff.
You are facing fear from your fellow workers that you may make them look uncaring and at times increase the standard of your company.
And they would have to work their asses to meet your high standard.

Always keep in mind the need of the customers. Both internal and external. Internal meaning your bosses and fellow employees that are positive.

Good job, mate : )

I'm the same way. Most people appreciate someone going the extra mile for them... especially since it seems a lot of people could care less about customer service and professionalism. You keep doing what you're doing. You're not a goody two shoes... you sound as if you take a great deal of pride in everything you do and do it to the best of your ability. I wish more people were so motivated. Good luck in your current and future endeavors. I'm sure you'll do well with such a great attitude and work ethic.

It's so refreshing to hear about someone who pays attention to the "service" part of customer service!

However, regarding professionalism in your two jobs, I'd say that people expect bankers to be helpful and knowledgeable, but not as casual as you would be in the store.

You are absolutely right. The biggest mistake you can make in any work environment is to get sucked into being another malcontent. You are there to do a job, and you should take it seriously. Be kind to co-workers, but be detached if it means protecting your job and your self respect.

you're right. people have always told me to "slow down" on the job and in school. They think we're trying to make them look bad but hey - my work says something about me so i follow my own quality standards whenever possible.

i have to admit, there are times i do slow down - the downside of the above is that you end up doing ALL the work.
