Plantar Fasciitis is a common cause. When your first few steps out of bed in the morning cause severe pain in the heel of your foot, you may have plantar fasciitis (fashee-EYE-tiss). It's an overuse injury affecting the sole or flexor surface (plantar) of the foot. A diagnosis of plantar fasciitis means you have inflamed the tough, fibrous band of tissue (fascia) connecting your heel bone to the base of your toes.
You're more likely to get the condition if you're a woman, if you're overweight, or if you have a job that requires a lot of walking or standing on hard surfaces. You're also at risk if you walk or run for exercise, especially if you have tight calf muscles that limit how far you can flex your ankles. People with very flat feet or very high arches are also more prone to plantar fasciitis.
The condition starts gradually with mild pain at the heel bone often referred to as a stone bruise. You're more likely to feel it after (not during) exercise. The pain classically occurs again after arising from a midday lunch break.
If you don't treat plantar fasciitis, it may become a chronic condition. You may not be able to keep up your level of activity and you may also develop symptoms of foot, knee, hip and back problems because of the way plantar fasciitis changes the way you walk.

You may have plantars fasciaitis. It is an inflammtion of the tendon in your foot. Usually caused by repeated walking on a hrd and unforgiving surface. Do you walk on hard tile or concrete for long periods on a daily basis. If so this is probaly it. The pain is worse upon awakening in the morning and is painful when n your feet for periods of time. There are excersizes to help you get over this , also weight seems to be a factor. When I lost weight mine became easily controlled. Take Naproxen Sodium....or aleve to help with the discomfort. Best exersize that helped me...use a pillowcase , belt or long piece if cloth keep your leg straight and loop the cloth around the sole of your foot at the top right under your toes on that fatty pad, pull your foot back towards your body...you will feel a burn ...you are stretching the offending tendon. Do this frequently throughout the day and hold the burn to a count of at least 10 more if you can stand it. Hope this helps you.

A few years ago I had really bad foot pain. Inserts or wearing Birkenstocks only helped a little. I finally was sent to therapy where the therapist used plastic tools to rub the backs of my legs to break up scar tissue. The first treatment was almost unbearable. The first 3 extremely painful. I had ten sessions and about a month later, my feet stopped hurting and I could wear almost any kind of shoe again.

Lots of things: Stubbing your toe, dropping a paint can on it, breaking it, arthritis, losing a toe or two, deep cuts, dislocating a toe or tarssel bone, mega foot cramp, ligament and/or tendon damage, run over by car or, worse still, a steam roller, a steel jaw trap, a nail, a Vietnamese foot spike trap, run over by a lawnmower, squishing it in a door, crushing it under a rock .... etc, etc, etc.
