I see so many people crying over abortions and saying every child should live, and crap like that. These people refuse to understand that, given the current rate of population growth and decline that our food supply will be running dangerously low (think oil only food) within the next 50 years. The earth cannot support that many people, so before you throw a fit and protest every abortion on the planet, realize where the world's population and capabilities stand.

By the way, the information I used to base this question on I learned in my environmental geography class in college. It does factor in death rates, etc. The land area you must consider as farmable land if you are going to use it, and also have to consider the possibilities of growing things in that climate.

Okay, to the stupid people that can't read. This question has nothing to do with available land area. There is plenty of room for people at the moment. There is NOT an overabundance of food!

I must admit I was laughing while reading your first sentence. But I agree with your concerns over population growth. I think an emphasis on birth control (esp RU486 and/or like drugs) and a de-stigmatization on things like masturbation are more preferable. It also doesnt help , for example, when the Pope is still anti contraception and masturbation (or did things change on this?). Personally, I think there are way too many people having way too many kids; but, like Aldous Huxley wrote- you need at least some skill and knowledge for the most menial job, but any moron can be a parent.

Abortion is not the answer to population control and the "population and lack of food" does not make abortion okay. Abortion is not the only option. There is the birth control pill, I've never been pregnant becuase of it, it's a pill you can take everyday. There are other methods of birth control to use also so think about that before you start saying that aborting babies is good for our population. Unfortunaltey most of the women who are aborting babies are not being responsible with their sex lives, they are not using the birth control pill or they are are using it but not responsible enouph to take it every day, and they are probably not using condems and they most definatley probably are not married either and sleeping with someone they would not want a kid with. The worlds population has nothing to do with abortions.

You know the irony? The one thing that all these folks miss? Your right it is not only an argument of land mass, food and the like, it is also the fact that all of these people who don't want a woman to have an abortion, don't want to give her financial support when that child is beyond the embryonic stage. We have all these children who of this moment are existing way below the poverty line and our government is literally taking food out of their mouths to fight a war in Iraq. What gives? If we are going to decide when life begins fine...but then we should also decide when we just don't give a crap about that life any longer.

True dat man. I do realize it and it has caused a *****load of problems not only for our country but in really populated areas like China. Like in China there's like millions of female infants murdered because of the child restriction laws and poor families prefer males because they could do more manual labor. Also a lot of families having a lot of children in other parts of Asia which leads to a major problem in having sweat shops and stuff like Indonesia.

Plus in America do you realize that because of the over population we have is one of the main reasons why global warming is a problem. Because we are the country that uses the most non-renewable resources, which is caused by not only our life styles but that sheer fact that its a hell of a lot of us living that lifestyle. Our population has also produced a bunch of solid waste in which we're running out of places to put it.

The question creator has raised a really big question because population is a big part of the environmental and social issues of our planet.

As for relating the overpopulation issue to the abortion issue... that arguement runs a little thin. I'm for abortion but only because a lot of the time people are getting pregnant and aren't mentally or financially ready for it so in turn you have a lot of unwanted kids running around with people who suck at parenting thus creating a lot of criminals, bums and all around low lifes because their parents let them do whatever they wanted them to do when they were kids.

So yeah.. basically just think before you have kids, and don't have too many of them.. PLEASE!!

P.S. I came from a public school so I take offence to that.

They said the same thing decades ago, and it is still wrong.

The population growth rate is slowing. The food production capability is expanding. Each year, science makes each acre of arable land more productive, more bounteous. There is more than enough food to feed everybody.

The only reason people still suffer famines and starvation is because of their governments.

Dear Selnyk,

Your fears are overblown and misinformed. They fail to calculate in any death rate, declining birth rates other than abortion, true land area available for agrarian production, and genetic improvements in food growth.

Go inform yourself better.

World population is expected to peak in 2075 and then decline substantially. Moreover, the birth rate in the US is actually lower than the death rate, so our births are having little to no effect on overall overpopulation.

Hell is the grave, and the depraved are raised interior the 2nd resurrection and are forged into the lake of fire. I agree with you. There are far too many people as it is [highway gridlock, long lines for just about anything you do, etc.]. Sure, there is plenty of room for more people, but most city infrastructures are already overtaxed. More people will mean greater tragedy when the next catastrophic event occurs.

Your question isn't half as intriguing as the answers. I love how some questions bring out the uneducated, quasi-literate, letters for words, yelling buffoons; the very cream of our public school system. I have wonder if they even comprehend the meaning of the words "Check Spelling" that appear above the response window.
Special note: If you're going to take offense to being called quasi-literate, please, at least try to spell it correctly.
