I've heard wacky rumours that women can pee standing upright and direct their pee well away from their bodies. If such an act is possible would a woman be able to use a urinal standing up then? how would a woman aim her pee? Could she right her name in the snow?

Yes it is possible - practice in the shower first.
Lean back a little, rotate your hips forward a little, then pull your lips apart and release - learn to control it with the muscles you use to start and stop your flow - Keep practicing until you get control of it.
I taught a gf how to do it - she loved going into the Men's room and using a urinal.

Let me get rid of this myth right here and now.
When I was 7 years old, I was jealous that my brother (1 year older) could pee through a screen door onto the patio.
I stood there right next to him and tried to pee through the screen door.
I succeeded only in peeing down my leg and in clogging the holes on the screen.
So, my experience is, NO. Women can't pee standing up like men.

yes it is possible for a woman to pee standing up. Ive done it. practice in the shower before you do though cause it could get messy. lol. probably cant aim good enough to spell her name though

yes if u take a funnel with u it will be aimed wherever u want to aim and its true even without a funnel u can pee right and straight if ur lucky i do it in the shower and it goes everywhere, good luck
