Sounds like your toolbar is unlocked and perhaps the address bar is unchecked.
Right-click in the area to the right of the word Help to make sure Address bar is checked.
See the little bar to the left of the word File? Look for another one of those next to the word Address and drag it into place.
Right-click in the area to the right of the word Help to lock the toolbars when you are done to keep it from going away again.

Open IE, click on View, Toolbars, Address bar

right click on the tool bar and chose address bar or chose view tool bars and address bar
