The Hand of God goal was scored by Diego Maradona in the quarter-final match of the 1986 FIFA World Cup between England and Argentina, played on 22 June 1986 in Mexico City's Estadio Azteca. Maradona illegally used his left hand to score the goal, but the referee thought he had used his head and allowed the goal. Argentina won 2-1

During the Mexico '86 World Cup Maradona fooled the referee when cleverly used his hand instead of his head to score a Goal. When he was asked if had scored the goal with his hand (con la mano) he replied with a cheeky word game that looses a bit in translation:

Maradona said he scored: 'Con la mano de Dios' it literally translates to 'With the hand of God' and it is an expression in Spanish that means: With God's Help.
The closest translation would have been 'With A hand from God' or 'With God's hand'

It happened during the semi final match between England and Argentina at the 1986 FIFA world cup held in Mexico. The ball redirected off Maradona's hand into the net. Argentina went on to win that match and the World Cup...

Hand of God is refered to the goal scored by Argentina's and world famous soccer star Maradona in the World Cup '86. He actually put the ball in the goal with his fist. He jumped to direct the ball with his head but he realised he wasn't very accurate to meet it with his head so with a @lightning reflex he just hit the ball with his hand which would otherwise just brush past his head. Even though technically it was a foul it has remained one of the most celebrated goals in history.

Well I hope your ignorance has now been permanently damaged.lol

Whatever it is after so many years that the "hand of God" incident took place, players are still able to deceive referees with their antics.Time it is said changes everything but it's yet to change how our players engage in tricks during games. If anything at all it has gotten worse and as u suggested it's time to introduce technology to solve this problem.

in a quarter final match bwtween england and argentina in 1986, maradona tried to headbutt the ball pass english goalkeeper peter shilton and while jumping hit the ball in his fist into the goal. it is called the hand of god because replays show that "god helped him score" and referee said he saw him hit it with his head and not the hand. very very odd. a couple years back maradona admitted he did it on purpose.

Maradona's goal against england in which he used his hand. Aliaks Frei of switzerland did it in the 06 world cup on a diving header but he was caught. that was pretty funny.

it's the goal maradona made in the 1986 world cup...he pretty much 'handed' the ball (i.e. made a handball) into the goal...the ref didn't see it so it did count even though it was an illegal goal.

as far as I know, he himself named it the 'hand of God'...not sure about that though.
