I wish he hadn't.

I completely back him - I saw where someone was furious and asking if all those in agreement with the veto were experts.... Lets start here - Embryonic research has accomplished nothing. Billions of $$ have been dumped into this research with no results..those of you who believe otherwise need to research a little deeper.Clinical; trials show implantation of ESC into lab animals have a tendency to develop into tumorous growths called Teratomas. In the human body the ESC are treated as forgien body and are rejected. So the scientist who are getting quite rich off this continually failing research have decided that the way to fix this is to clone the patient . Allow the clone to grow into the blastocyst stage and see what happens.Anybody see a little Jekyll and Hyde here?? Meanwhile great accomplishments have been made using Adult Stem Cells. Predictable. Gotta keep all those right wing religious nuts happy. The Bush administration continues to incur so much national debt as a result of going to war with Iraq that our economy will suffer for generations to come. All those billions of dollars down the rat hole, and no federal funds for stem cell research because, ostensibly, "god" might not approve. Wasn't there something in the Ten Commandments about "thou shalt not kill"? I don't recall any asterisk or a footnote in the Commandments listing any exceptions to this rule. But then, Moses never provided me with a copy. Maybe it was there on the bottom of the stone tablets, you know, in the fine print.

What I find most amusing about the whole this is that, of the dozens of laws he's broken, and the tens of dozens of laws he's said he refuses to enforce through signing statements, this is the one he vetoes.

It's the first time he's actually followed the proper constitutional requirements and within his proper scope of authority. And the Decider takes a stand against medical research based on religious grounds.

I don't know whether the sigh in relief that he's finally figured out how to read the Constitution, or cry because he's thrown out any concept of being able to make rational decisions about what's good for the country.

"EVERYONE DESERVES A CHANCE AT LIFE." The stem cells come from embryos that are slated for destruction aka have a 100% of dying...the fertility clinics have way too many embryos, so the extra embryos (which the stem cells would be coming from) will be destroyed regardless. So in fact, opponents of the bill (like Bush) really have no argument at all!!

Bush does not know how to define LIFE!

1) He supports capital punishment to kill life
2) Define a zygote/embryo to be life even when it is does not have a define biological systems (nervous, digestive, etc.)
3) He would give tax breaks to richest class for their real estate, investments, and wills but cut all the education grant/financial aid, welfare, medicaid
4) Would not push Congress to raise the minimum wage when the amount you make at minimum wage(with 40 hrs/wk) for year is still be well below poverty line to live

So Bush vetoing shows his lack of perception and his own view (not all Americans)

I back it all the way. There have been findings that stem cells from adults would work just as well. Why not use these or those from the umbilical cord of a newborn? I don't agree with using human embryos.

I agree with Bush. We don't need taxpayers dollars to fund any scientific research. Let private industry do it. They do it better than wasteful, government funded projects. Why should we fund something that will lead to a private enterprise getting rich? Yes, we want to advance science, but let industry do it, or donations from private charities and citizens like the Gates and Buffets.

It's just Bush kissing up to the Bible Nazi base of the Republican party. He promised he would throw them a bone for their support in past elections and they were starting to soften about turning out to vote this November. The Bible Nazis are just being used by the Republican party and this bone may not be enough. Now we have to see how far Bush will go to insure their loyalty, it may be a rough ride.

I hadn't heard about this yet. Did he really do this? I thought some of the other things he had done were horrible, but this is bad even for him. How can he do this to people who really need the help? He is forcing many people to live lives in wheelchairs who would otherwise be able to walk. This is despicable. He is forcing the views of a minority of people onto the rest of us. Hopefully, it will finally be passed when we get a president into office who has a bit of compassion.

I would looove to be able to set my brain cells free of Mr. Bush...
Unfortunately he is responsible for so many things, that affect so many others ... that we simply cannot avoid him. Nor all the other of is type....
I feel each day a greater impotence, and disbelief, while facing our future.
The hope lies in believing that, one day, the good people of the world will gather and promote peace and respect for nature, instead of money and political fights!

Good Luck!
