Because your attention is divided between the road and the person on the other line...it can cause lives by just a blink of an eye, when an accident on the road occurs. Prevention is better than cure...

I talk on the cell phone when I drive, but I would not be upset if they made it illegal in Ohio. Even though I would like to say otherwise, I know that I do not pay as much attention to everything while I'm on it. There has been times I have gone through a small town or something while I've been on my cell phone and then when I get off of it, I don't really remember anything about the town I just went through. Not good. Not good at all. :(

Many people argure that it shouldn't be outlawed because they are afraid of the slippery slope effect. They think that if you make talking on the phone illigal then channel surfing on the radio , talking to people in the car, eating while driving, and other such activities should be illigal.

While this is valid reasoning law makers are concerned by the increasing number of accidents caused by people talking on the cell phone. The cell phone has a tendency to distract people from driving for extended periods of time which leads to accidents. Maybe a better solution would be huge fines for people who get into accidents while talking on the cell phone.

Because these morons yaking on the phone don't pay enough attention to their driving to begin with. They get even worse when talking on the damn phone. You make your call BEFORE you leave. Don't wait until you are behind the wheel. People are too stupid to figure this out for themselves, so it is necessary to make a law to force them to do the right thing. I've already run over two dipsh*ts on cell phones that ran a red light (my light had been green for more than 10 seconds) and one that changed lanes without signaling or looking. GET OFF THE DAMN PHONE AND DRIVE!!!

Actually, I recently saw on the news a study that showed people were more capable of driving while under the influence of alcohol than they were while talking on a cell phone. I find it hard to believe, but that's what they said.
Still, although its illegal in my state (NY) to do it, I do talk on my phone while I drive sometimes. I feel that I am perfectly capable of driving while I am on the phone. It's not any different than having someone in the passenger seat next to me who's talking to me. Especially since I only drive with one hand anyway.
What's next? A ban on music in the car becaues you might sing along with it and get distracted? A ban on speaking while in the car. No thank you, nanny state... I can take care of myself.

It's considered a distraction. Haven't you ever been driving and seen someone else driving irratically or crazy or slow and wondered what was wrong and then pulled up next to them and they were on the phone?
Some people can handle it and some people just cant walk and chew bubble gum at the same time....yadda da mean?
I personally think it's best to just use an earpiece.

Haven't you noticed how little attention some people pay to their driving while they are talking on their cell phones?

Statistically, they are becoming increasingly involved in the number of accidents people have.

Woolgathering is a good way to have an accident, and a telephone is good technology to produce woolgathering.

It's distracting to the driving. More accidents are caused by people changing radio staions, climate controls, lighting cigerettes, and eating food than cell phones, but they have become easy targets.

Because people are usually a pain in the butt when they are on a cell phone and driving. They can't do both at the same time well. They are very annoying!!!!

1.A new study confirms that the reaction time of cell phone users slows dramatically, increasing the risk of accidents and tying up traffic in general, and when young adults use cell phones while driving, they're as bad as sleepy septuagenarians.
