I was baking a red velvet cake the other day and I accidentally spilled red food coloring on my countertop which seeped off the edge and onto my apartment dishwasher. Now there's red stains all over the white dishwasher and I can't get them off! How do I get this food dye off the white dishwasher so I don't get stuck losing my security deposit? All purpose cleaners aren't doing the trick. Please help!

Hi there. I'm a guy who feels kind of domestic today. If other tips don't help, try some of the more industrial carpet spot stain removers, but in a hidden spot first. Alternatively, insect repellant sometimes works wonders (yep, like Off) They have some nasty corrosive chemicals which can break down stains as well as fabric or skin if you don't watch out.

p.s. I love red velvet cake!

When I can't get a stain off of something besides clothes, I use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. haven't had any stains from Koolaid, markers, or anything else since. The thing is a miracle! You should be able to go to the Mr. Clean website and get a coupon for them. They're not expensive.

Try dabbing it with some hydrogen peroxide. Hopefully you have some of this in your medicine cabinet.

If that doesn't work, there's a product called "Lift Off #3" that might help. I know buying a cleaning product just for one little stain kind of sucks, but at least it will be cheaper than losing your security deposit!

Try treating it (since it's white) with Clorox bleach pen. The stuff is pretty thick and might stick long enough to get the coloring off. Otherwise, try straight bleach on a rag/sponge.

Have you tried spraying it with Greased Lightning? Just spray it and let it sit for about 5 minutes. It works great on Kool Aid stains too.
