I've got the same problem. But mine says 1 new message and I've checked it already. I just ignore it because I'm sure Yahoo is working on it.

Check the message and "mark as Read" from the drop -down menu...Maybe this might help. Try it.

go to the "Welcome screen" (the first page that you see when you sign in) that will reset it.
