I am worried about my girlfriend. She is cutting herself, looking at porn, and is only happy when we are alone cuddling... What might be going on? Any ideas? I think she wants help, but I can't tell, how can I talk to her about it?

Well, looking at porn I would not worry about so much, she's just horny! The cutting I would definitely worry about, and the not being happy unless she's with you means she's probably depressed. Have you talked to her about how her cutting and her depression worries you? Tell her it hurts you to see her sad and hurting herself, and encourage her to seek help. You don't say how old the two of you are, but if you are minors, tell her parents or your parents or some adult that you trust about the cutting, so that they can help her get the medical help she needs to stop the habit.

She needs more help than you can give her on your own. Seek professional help. Cutting herself is a scream for help. Looking at porn could mean so many things but coupled with the cutting and need for isolation, it's not good. I would talk with a professional for tips on how to approach your girlfriend about this subject. This situation needs to be handled delicately. She is very lucky to have a boyfriend who is concerned like you are. Don't leave her high and dry but don't be consumed by her illness. She is not well and therefore she can not offer you a healthy relationship. Be a friend but keep in mind that her problems are bigger than the two of you. Proceed with caution!

You need to find out what is going on. Something seems to have happened and she doesn't know how to deal with it. Do you think the cutting and porn are connected somehow? Like someone mentioned earlier, it could be sexual trauma. Cutting is serious and she need professional help. Be patient with her and give her the attention that she needs. She is proabably happy when she is cuddling with you, because she feels alone and when she is with you, she feels protected and is with someone who cares about her. Sit down and talk with her and tell her your concerns. Keep asking questions until you get to the bottom of this.

if she is a teen, then i guess the porn thing is normal. she probably likes u more than anything, and is happy to be with u. If she is cutting herself....uh......i don't know about that. Just ask her about what is going on lately. if you find out that a loved one has passed away, comfort her the best you can.

Cutting is usually a reaction to stress--the stress might be from an incident in the past.
Looking at porn might be OK or it might not---it depends.
Taking the two together, your g/f might have a past sexual trauma---but that is only a stab in the dark on my part.
A therapist seems to be in order but your g/f has to be ready to accept therapy.

Being a teenage girl is a big issue. She could possibly be going through a bad time in her life. Confront her that you are worried about her and you would like to know what is going on. I think that if this is a real relationship that you guys will be able to talk openly.
