Compound words are any two words that can stand alone or be put together without a space because of how commonly they are used together.

For example, sometimes they have a different meaning:
I have a cat.
I went for a walk.
The model came down the catwalk.

sometimes they have the same meaning:

I have a fish.
He lives in a bowl.
That is my fishbowl.
