I don't kow how to get in shape and actually improve. Does anyone also know how to CORRECTLY do a good lay-up. I'm okay in basketball, but the easiest thing is very hard for me to do. I can shot a 3-pointer, but for the life of me i can't shot a lay-up. If ayone had any ideas, tips or advice, I'd appreciate it.

My best advice to you would to do alot of aerobic conditioning such as running. Do Suicides and run laps. But if you can you should also do light resistance training to retain lean muscle mass. If you are wanting to shed some weight start eating a 1500 calorie diet with about 200 gms. of protein, 40-45 gms of fat and varied amts. of carbs depending on how much u want to lose. Dont train too often, every other day is good.

The best idea is running to get in shape. Personally I hate running, but it definitely keeps me in better shape for basketball. Get a mix for your mp3 player or ipod. I use "run faster" from itunes. Each day increase the amount of minutes you run, by the number of songs you listen to. One of the most important things in basketball is being able to run up and down the court the whole game without getting tired.

Now for the layup. Start out on the right hand block. Put the ball in your right hand. Simply practice stepping once with your left foot and then raising your right knee and shooting. Make sure to aim for the upper right hand corner of the box. When you can make 20 of those in a row. Add in a step and a dribble. Again, don't move on until you make 20 of those. Do the exact opposite for the left hand side. Eventually you will be able to go full power from wherever you want on the court.

Hope this helps you out. Good luck with your season!

To get in shape: if you are overweight you need to diet and exercise. Exercises such as weight lifting and running really help.
If you aren't overweight but you just need some exercise, you should still run. B-ball requires lots of endurance. Do long-distance running to build endurance. Also do some sprinting because you don't want to be the last one down the court on a fast-break.

For your lay-up: PRACTICE!!! The proper form for a right-handed lay-up is this. You run, press off the ground with your left foot, and then either throw the ball with your right hand, or roll it off your finger. (roll it off your fingers if you are tall enough)

As far as tryouts go just give it your all. Coaches want you to put into tryouts what you are going to put in during the season. Run hard. Play as a team player. Most importantly - LOVE THE GAME!!!

To get in shape for basketball, you need to start exercising on a daily basis. Eat healthy food and try to run at least a mile everyday that would help a lot with all the running you're gon have to do playing basketball.

Well to get in shape for tryouts you should try jogging for long periods of time like 30Min's so that you could get your heart rate up and improve your cardiovascular system so that you don't get tired as fast everyone else. you could do suicides and time your self and lower your time each time and next time you dnt make that should be your goal. During tryouts play your game and dnt try to be a superstar unless you are one. Do what you do best. Shooting a layup you should just use the square and you could practice this doing them with one hand on each side so that you could do a layup with both hands. good luck.

For your first question: get involved in a spring sport. Soccer is always good! The average soccer player runs 2 miles in one game! It would also improve your footwork

On to the layups. If your worried about being embaraced in a game because of a missed layup, you should simply do a jumpstop! It really helped me when I was struggling with lay ups.
