Ronnie, don't listen to these other people. They have no idea what they are talking about. The line is caused by 'tab serperation,' it is a faulty LCD screen. You can call the laptop maker and get it repaired if it is under warranty. If it isn't, they will typically ask for $700-$1000.
However, if you visit http://www.screentekinc.com or call them, they can get you the screen you need for a fraction of what the laptop makers will charge. You can replace the screen yourself, it's simple.

Agree with first two posting. Bad display. Replacing one is usually in the same price range as a new laptop. Sorry...

I agree with everything everyone else said, time to get a new laptop. Download and save your files and KEEP YOUR HARD DRIVE, that you can always use again, the rest is too expensive to try to replace, Don't forget to take your hard drive out of your laptop!!!!!!!!

That probably means a short somewhere, it is usually cheaper to get a new one than to repair the old one.
