The pain in your ribs could likely be that your baby has gotten into a very uncomfortable position (for you) inside the womb. Or, since you're also having stomach upset the pain could also mean some really bad gas or indigestion. I am 34 weeks pregnant and sometimes being bloated actually makes me a little queasy.
If the pain in your ribs is accompanied by any kind of breathing difficulty, I would definitely call a doctor, but the two symptoms you are describing sound nothing like actual labor.
The most tell-tale sign of labor is contractions that increase in frequency and strength over a period of time, although the intervals are not always regular. And even once these contractions are regular, you don't necessarily have to call your doctor/midwife or rush off to the hospital or birthing center. You most likely will have hours (or even a day or more) ahead of you.
If time tells that this is some sort of digestive discomfort (gas, bloating, indigestion, heartburn) I would suggest the following:
1. Beano - take it before any meal that might potentially cause some gas or bloating. It works wonders!
2. Gas X - take for gas or bloating
3. Maalox - good for indigestion/heartburn and safe for pregnant women
If the baby's position is causing the rib pain, you might try holding your arms above your head and taking some deep breaths, or doing some "cat stretches" on your hands and knees to see if you can get him to move his little heiny somewhere else!

It didn't for me. With my labor it felt much lower down. It sounds more like the baby has his feet in your ribs and is pushing up on your stomach, making you feel sick. If the pain comes in regular intervals that decrease to an average of about 5 minutes apart, go to the hospital to get checked out. There is no shame in going to get checked out even if it is false labor. I had false labor 4 times before the real thing with real contractions less than 5 minutes apart and everything. The nurse told me that the only way they can tell false labor from the real thing is whether you are dilating and if so, how much, so there is no way for you to be sure either way. How far along are you?
Best wishes for a healthy and happy baby!

I was induced with my first, although while I was in labor I do not recall feeling sick or having pain in my ribs. It was more like really bad menstrual cramps times ten. Every women and body and baby are different though, you never know.

That's usually from either heartburn or the baby resting or kicking high up around the ribs. It also could be the strain of your stomach causing the aches.
It's not contractions, so it's safe to say it's not labor.

It depends. Usually there is (sorry) some sort of discharge followed by heavy cramping and shortness of breath. You can actually time contractions. Call your doctor and ask for certain.
