trying to keep my kids from downloading on the net.

I know that Integrity Online Shield does (but it costs $49 a year). I just installed it the other day:

If you are using a router to access the Internet, you can turn off the "port" that the file sharing program uses from the router's firewall. As exact instructions are different for each router brand and the port is different for each P2P program, please repost with brand and P2P and one of us geeks will be glad to give you step by steps.

Set up 3 Accounts on the PC.
The Administrator Account only for Offline needed Computer tasks, like maintenece and such and occasional online to update software.
A Power User Acct for going online to research items,check e.mails and such,
A Retricted User account for children.
Each one can have a unique password.

Configure your firewall so the ports necessary for P2P are not open. Password protect the firewall.

just set the firewall to do that or the content adviser
or block certain websites
and set a password on the internet options so they can't change it

best way is to un-install it...keep stick handy when u find them downloaded something beat them into submission is harsh but effective
