Not at all, with all the things going on in the world i think kids should have cell phones to keep in touch with family or others. There are cell phones just for kids these days.. I think its important and also teaches responsibility to use minutes correctly and to look after something so important. The world is not Little House on the Par ire anymore and when people need to get in touch with some one they should have that ability,if you notice there aren't that many pay phones around like there used to be and a lot of phones have gps tracking on them so you can find where they are, so I say the pros out weigh the cons of a kid having a phone.

Yes it's way to young.......they shouldn't need a cell until they are out driving at 16 and only use it in emergency.........I'm 33.......when I was 13 I was still playing release the belgium outside til dark with my friends and just maybe getting over playing with barbies......kids today have no idea what it's like to play outside and have fun....they are at the mall, on the computer, playing video games in their bedroom, or talking on a cell phone......trust me you'll be happy if you wait....I see it first hand with my neighbors kids.....ages 13 and 15.....no cell phones and only 1 hour a day of video games or computer time......and the computer is in the dining room where they can monitor what's going on on instant messenger with the kids friends.......SORRY I RAMBLED A BIT............

Depends, I view cell phones as being a necessity. I know they have kid cell phones out now. My sister kids have cell phone, and she uses it to keep track on them. Sometimes, then don't call in or say they are going to friends house, so she calls them to see where they are. I depends on if your kids are ready to handle a cell phone responsibly. Don't give their number out to everyone, don't ring up all these charges on them. Now that I think about it, it is kind of young. Maybe when they are 15 or 16. Hope this helps.

These days I have seen kids as young as 5 walking around will cells. There are many positive benefits to children having cell phones. You are always able to get a hold of them and visa versa. When they need you, they can always get a hold of you. I wouldn't let them have one to chat it up with their friends. My parents made me wait until I was 16 so that while driving if something happened I could call AAA or them. It was used ONLY for emergencies and to check in.

No, they arent too young for a Pay as you go tracfone (this way you wont have high bills and it will teach them responsibility and trust because you can give them a set amount of minutes a month without having to worry about high phone bills). :-) I personally started on pay as you go and had that for awhile and then moved up to a plan after I earned trust and then we just switched back to pay as you go because we dont use our phones that often. This way if you have more than 1 child you can afford to get them each one phone kits start at $20 at walmart

Hope this Helps

Are you willing to deal with the responsibility of how many minutes they go over, games they download, etc.? Because I doubt that someone that young is truly responsible enough to make sure they stay within minutes... Prepaid is often the way to go there. Try the Firefly phone.

In the UK they give them to 5 year olds. Some people here are major idiots though. I lived without them when I was a kid, so kids should be able to now.

No, however like everything else you need to talk to your kids. My kids are 12 and15 and they both have. Every now and again without them knowing (not invading their privacy it's being a parent) I check to see what is on their phone. They know whenever they are caught with negative things on their phone it will be taken away.

No, I don't think so. I got one when I was 13. It's better that way 'cause when I have to ride my bike to next town to school and my bike breaks down, I can always call me mum.
