I used to do nails in a salon, so I can say don't let the tips on top fool you. The nails underneath are growing, but they are not healthy, they are very thin and vulnerable.
The reason? Before your tips are applied your real nail is buffed to prepare the nail for the tip. This buffing takes the natural oils off of your nail, which makes your real nail thin, and easy to split and crack.
Your nail is growing at it's normal rate, but you would see if you took your tips off what a pain they would be, thin, splitting, cracking, breaking! You would be on a major maintenance program to get your real nails healthy again.

I agree your nails do grow at the same rate with or without acrylics. Although, once you remove your acrylics your nails will more than likely be weak and brittle and peel. So take good care of your nails and give the acrylics a rest every now and then, go natural.

Same as hair, when you don't mess with it it's able to grow and not break off. But fake nails also keep oxygen from getting to your nails and weaken them. So it's not really better for your nails, it's just easier to maintain and looks cuter than chipped nails.

They grow at the same rate. They just don't chip and break off because they are protected by the tips.

They may just seem to grow better because you have a hard shell on top of them so you're not banging them or getting them caught on things. They actually grow at the same rate.

Because they are like hiden. So they aren't put through the daily activity of your hands that can harm them if they are weak.
