Can't speak to popular, but I'd pick Bruce Willis over Tom Cruise any day. Bruce Willis is a great looking guy and appears to be aging gracefully with no typical mid-life crisis. Tom Cruise, on the other hand, is a total kook. Used to like him, but the guy is obviously insecure ~ which is the biggest turn-off in a guy!

Appearance wise, Tom is more handsome. As for popularity, the only reason why Tom is more prominent, is because of all his public antics, while Bruce keeps his life more low-key, so he isn't talked about as much. But they are both very good actors with their share of great films.
