The night trains are very safe. Just be 'street smart' and keep to yourself.
The only negative thing I have ever encountered is a drunk person here and there, otherwise it's not a bad ride at all and it's pretty quiet compared to the day.

Yes, the "T" Police make it a very safe ride. I used to take the last train down to Providence all the time when I lived in Boston. The night trains are just as safe as the day trains.
