First of all ALL TEXANS are not rednecks - most of us are down to earth country folks that relate to everyday people on a constant basis.
BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH A REDNECK!
Our financial standing does not matter down here.... one neighbor can be struggling to pay bills running a cattle ranch and farming while the person right next door can be loaded with tons of money and also running a cattle ranch, but when help is needed we are all there together - depsite their differences!
Thats also why were are elected into offices so frequently because we do not see ourselves as better than the person next door - but equal to them! So how you call us egotistical I do not know.
As far as "the current disaster" Can you really blame Bush for that? Why not go back to Clinton or before.... Why did we not take care of Osama Bin LAden when Ollie North said he was a threat.... why did we not take that seriously? I support BUSH 100% at least he has the balls to take care of business and see it through till the end... Had we not pulled out early before chances are would not have had to go back this time!
We do not judge people by status or color or religion. Most Texans are just friendly people wanting to help out their neighbors and if you cant understand or appreciate that - then we would appreciate it if you just stayed out of our "Friendly" state and good ridance to you as well!
I will admit there are a few fanaticals everywhere - but for the majority of US TEXANS! We don't need folks like you bad mouth a culture you obviously know NOTHING about!
TEXAS is GODS paradise!

"""""""""Texas is a very large state and DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS
and us rednecks are a hell of a lot smarter than all of the yankees
and foreigners in the world and we are the real AMERICANS!!!""""""""""""
HAHAHAHA!!!Very funny!!!!Just a reminder: The only ones considered "REAL AMERICANS" are the Indians. And as far as being smarter, that is a very interesting claim to fame...Only idiots have the need to tell everyone how smart they are. On the other hand, the question above is inaccurate, since not even the President is originally from Texas. I think the people abnjim5 is referring to are those (not all) that live in rural settings. And that occurs in EVERY COUNTRY. It is a well known fact that rural inhabitants are not as informed and are quite frankly disinterested with what is going on around them. This, of course, does not mean that they are "bad" people so to speak. abnjim5 should refer to Utah, since they overwhelming supported Bush, far more than Texas.

"With Texas full of so many rednecks and twanging egotistical maniacs, why do US voters select their leaders from that US state?"
Prolly because Texans have better heads on their shoulders..afterall we didn't actually join the United States till a little bit before the Civil War I think..so we have TONS of experience handed down to us from ancestors....
we don't take Credit for G.W. Bush..he's a moron, and he just lives here...same with is dad..I wish they would go back to Chowder country (up north)....and not claim to be texans..it gives us a bad reputation...OH! and by the way..WE don't all have cattle farms and we aren't all rednecks..just to clue you in...

Texas is a large state with a large population, and is growing quickly, which means that it has more politicians elected to the House of Represenatives.
The reason you see more conservatives elected is because they are more organized. To understand more about how this system works, you should read American Theocracy by Kevin Philips.

Good. Leave. Because NO state needs someone as close-minded and ignorant as you are. I happen to live in Texas. And as much as I hate some the overt conservatism that I'm faced with everyday, I still think that this state has some great qualities. To dismiss this state or any other just because it has SOME bad qualities is just WRONG.

For the record, only three presidents (out of 43) have come from Texas. And only two were actually born there (Eisenhower and Johnson). LBJ was a Democrat, Eisenhower a very moderate Republican.
How you like them apples?
