and you could only change in the sea , would that also include swimming pools and such?

Well it really matters what you mean by that. If you meant the sea without the salt then yea. You could change in a pool or lake but that would be soo isolated that it would be hard for you to get any food. Unless of course your lake has fish and other stuff you can eat. Or if your pool in infested with water from a hurricane or a storm and fish and stuff is in it than yea.

If you mean a place where you can only change in salt water than no. You could only change in a sea or ocean that is it. Its better though, since your a mermaid no eye burning, choking or anything like that. You are surronded by your own species and you can find food easlily. Better than freshwater.

Oh and another thing, you cant transform in anything too salty either. For example, the Dead sea. Its too salty for a mermaid to live in because by the time 5 minutes pass, you will be parched and you cant go underwater because of the salt level, it will keep you afloat.

Aquamarine (the mermaid in the movie) changed in any body of water (and swimming pools can now be salt water)....but since mermaids are fictional I guess it really doesn't matter!

Sydney and Jason make good points, so if that's the case....would you be able to change at a huge aquarium? Say the whale tanks at Sea World. They're salt water.

If you're writing the story, you can make the rules. I've seen both types of mermaids in different books and movies, so I guess different people pick different myths to follow.

If mermaids were real, then no because pools are small, isolated bodies of fresh water.
