I live in a fairly new area. I have tried the sprays for ants and stakes. They are still alive and well. They are in an area where I have planted flowers......I need your help......I need to get rid of these and calling a pest control is too costly as I am retired and on a limited income.

Mix equal parts of borax and white granulated sugar. Place in small bowls or bottle caps in and around ant traffic areas. This is an organic way to take care of ants, and also most effective I've come accross. Of course, if it rains however you'll have to replace your outdoor containers' contants.

How it works: The ants will carry it to their hills, and all the ants that ingest it will eventually explode.

Good luck!

In the garden shop you should find a product called Nippon Ant Killer. It is priced reasonably - and here is the trick. Near where the ants are, cover an area with some kind of lid or something similar. Mix a quantity of the Ant Killer with some sugar and place it under the cover. The ants will take the poisoned sugar back to the nest and they and the pupas will die. Works every time for me and it keeps them away for a couple of years...

First off, you will never eliminate ants, too many of them and they out last any treatment, while you may kill some, they have back up. All you can hope to do is contain them, my wife and I have used an ammonia and water solution in a spray bottle to set up perimeters where we dont want ants. Outdoors, you should reapply every couple of days.

Try a granular ant bait. The type where they will take back to the main nest and be elimated at the source. Review the label and be patient as it may take a week or so to be effective. Just be sure and to follow the label directions.
