Have had them for years. You usually don't know you have them, but sometimes they hurt like a pinch when you ovulate, and at the worst they feel like appedicitis when they burst.
I had one so bad a few years ago that the ultrasound and CT scan came back probable for appendicitis just because of all the inflammation in the area. While I was being prepped for an apendectomy, the surgeon looked at me and said that I didn't look sick enough to have appendicitis, and did one more test. It was my ovary! The first CT they think showed the mess right after it had burst. The next CT was nearly normal...
Since then, I have been put on Levlen, a very weak BC pill that definitely helps control the growth of the cysts, since cyst growth is related to your hormones.

A raptured ovarian cyst would most probably cause severe pain, so you'd know. It can be ruptured though without symptoms. You needn'e worry about it, most women have 'em. If you have multy-cystic ovaries, that means you have a disorder of the ovaries usually controlled with contraceptives (the pill) and you'd have symptoms such as overgroth of body hair, severe pain during your period and a lower chance of getting pregnant. It is, in the very vast majority of cases, a treatable condition. (I'm an MD)

I have had three ovarian cysts so far, but only one of them ruptured. I had to have all of them surgically removed. I know I was told that I may have them repeatedly for the rest of my life and that they can cause hormone imbalances, pain, and irregular and/or heavy periods. It's best to discuss your concerns and symptoms with your OB. Try keeping a journal for 3 months. Track your moods, discomfort or pain through out the month and take notes about your period to look for patterns. i.e. was one month heavy but only 3 days long and the next light but 7 days? I was also told to watch my diet. NO DIET SODAS!! For women who have a history of ovarian cysts, diet sodas can increase your chances of getting one!! Cut down on salt and take a good vitamin. If you are have a lot of discomfort or irregular periods caused by the cysts, try primrose oil. You can find this herbal supplement at any health or vitamin store and it worked for me.
Best of luck!

Yes, I have them. It hurt one time so bad and was so swollen that they actually thought that I had an etopic (sp?) pregnancy. That was scary!! I still have them and they are monitored by my doctor. Sometimes they will be very painful and other times, I don't even know that they are there. Hope this helps.
