Whenever I went into labor..I just walked into the maternity section and said Im in labor.....the nurses looked at me like I was crazy and asked "are you sure" lol...there is no formal way to ask. Just go in and tell them. They will ask how many mins your contractions are so make sure you time them..it will give them a better idea of where you are at in labor

Well Im a mother of 5 kids and have been thru this a time or two....all you have to do is go straight to labor and delivery. Tell them the contractions are so far apart and your in labor. Or if its fast...yell Im having the baby now...HELP!. Quite frankly if your that far along and in active labor....you should not have to worry about snotty nurses. I would ask at your next visit what the hospital polocies are and what they want you to do in the case of labor. Every hospital is different. You should take a tour of labor and delivery and get a feel of where things are before the exciting event. Usually the nurses in labor and delivery are nice and understanding. You can always request someone else to care for you if you can't stand that nurse. Make sure you do have some type of labor support person there too and that they also know what to do for you. Good luck.

There is no stupid question when it comes to such an important issue. You should already have arrangements to be admitted if you are far enough along and yes you just walk in and say you are i n labor. They may send you home if you aren't ready after an exam , but better safe than sorry. On a first child it is not uncommon to go past the due date. they should be cking you once a week now for dilalation. If you do happen to get a snotty nurse in regards to that, which I doubt, report her to the hospital. You are a paying customer and you deserve fair treatment. On that off chance you can ask for another nurse anyway. good luck
Walk as much as possible right now, it will help with the delivery.

No, just tell them that you're having contractions. When I was in labor, we called the hospital and told them how far apart the contractions were, that way when we got there, the room was all ready and the nurse was waiting to check me. Usually, they're not snotty about false labor and they'll just tell you to go home. If you're under 3 cms dilated, then you'll have to go home.
Hope it goes as smoothly as mine did.

No! man, you gotta call your doctor- even if its at some ungodly hour, call the regular line, and there will be an emergency way to reach him. then hell probably be paged and call you back immediately. then you go to the hospital. Its also a pretty good idea to pre register at admitting before this happens which you should do soon, especially if youre in your third tri mester. just go to admitting and tell them youre pre registering because you will be giving borth there someday soon. then theyll take down all your registration now rather than later, while youre having contractions. that way when you go in to give birth, you just give em your name and go on up to labor and delivery. also, if youre really far past your due date, you might wanna consider asking doc to give you a c section. dont believe the hype against them- natural is NOT the best way to go. a c section can be scheduled and i swear by them. safest, quickest easiest way to bring your lil one into the world.

The nurses won't get snotty- or shouldn't. A few years ago I went with a girl who was having a baby to help her get to ths hospital, since the poor lass was pretty flusterred. Talk about cutting it close! That baby came out only about 10 minutes later. Though it was a very long 10 minutes.

When you go in to labor... you will know because the pain of labor is something that is very noticible... among other things like bloddy discharge and back pain.. but i know what are you concern about..the snooby know it all nurse with the power tripp attitude. Yes i had three children i have met them.. so when you think your in labor call the hospital and ask for the doctor who is going to take care of your delivery or in the next appointment ask him that your concern about who to contact when you go in to labor, they have a number for that.... and its normal to go even two weeks after your due date.. now and days they will induce if you dont go in to labor after you due date... so dont worry is going to be ok.. and get all the sleep you can now because soon when that little angel gets here is bye bye to sleep for a while. good luck honey. just relax your going to be fine good luck with your delivery.

oh you know that does happen sometimes, that you get there and if a nurse feels it is too soon for you to be there, then yeah she'll send you home. With me, my doctors had made sure for me to call one of them when I thought I was in labor. I paged the one doctor, she called. I told her what was going on, she said for me to call her back when things went a little quicker. Then she sent me to the hospital at which time there was no way they would send me home if she told me to go. So yeah maybe check with your doctor(s) much much before hand. Or even with your childbirth teacher, if you have one.

Your doctors office should give you a number to call, usually the hospital. When you think you are in labor, you call, they ask you some questions, tell you to come in. They ask you the questions just to make sure you aren't coming in with every little sneeze and cramp.

Usually you will head for the hospital and call your OB/GYN on the way. Your doctor will generally call the hospital and tell them that you're on your way so that they can have a bed ready for you.
It would be very rare for a nurse to tell you that you're not in labor and turn you away. She can't feel your contractions for you.
