If America continues to rush in to poorly thought out foreign policy do people think that we may end up seeing Al Qaeda as the lesser of two evils?

Evil is perhaps not the right word as it is really a confrontation of the equally deluded but do people think that we may be grateful of the two antagonists keeping a check on each other?

(eg after encountering the Al Qaeda backed insurgency in Iraq the US is now much less likely to launch a UNILATERAL military strike on Iran?)

It would be very difficult to compare Al Qaeda to the United States Of America, but your question has merit.
I think all Nations begin with a small group of individuals that see the potential for growth developing out of a shared cause like Al Qaeda that is born of discontent toward some home its own government that will not stand up for its principles and protect it's citizens.
Al Qaeda is born from a discontent with the Saudi Arabia's Government and it's policies toward it's citizens. The rage aimed at the United States is a result of these same Saudi Arabian Citizens belief that the US and it's money is responsible for propping up the Saudi Government by buying so much Saudi oil.
Al Qaeda is tolerated in the Middle East because the Sect of Islam, Wahabi, that is in Saudi Arabian is anti-American, anti-democratic and anti-christian.
So, America is feeding our gas money into the Middle East propping up the ultra-corrupt Governments that pay off the religious community in so that the Government can continue to exist. The religious community protects the government for very large donations.
Does it sound familiar? Well it should.
The people and governments of the Middle East have from several perspectives including the oil industry and the industry of religion, very much the same sorts of relationships.

In who's opinion are you quoting? I will never see a gang of murdering thugs as the good guy? What are you thinking? You need to look at the broad picture here and see what is happening. The middle east is being used as pawns by Russia, France, China, and the United States. They have oil, we ALL want it. That still does not make the terrorist murderous ways acceptable in any sense of the word. Stand back and take another look. I will never ever apologize for being an American and I will never ever back down to anyone especially to terrorist.

It seems to me that Zawahari, 2nd in command to Bin Laden is the one to watch.

If you get a chance to watch the Brit. academy award winning documentary named, I believe, "Power of the Nightmare" you will see what I am writing about.

It appears that his teaching includes the mantra that he who doesn't believe what he teaches is to be killed.

There is a comparison;

1.Both kill civilians because they believe they are fighting for a just cause.
2. Al Qaeda behead the innocent using a blade, the Americans behead with Daisy Cutters and other missiles.
