Average age for first steps is 9-17 months. Average age for pulling to stand is 6-12 months. (See sources section below.) Some babies will always be later than average, though. If your baby is developing in other areas, then it's probably nothing to worry about. Some babies just have different prioirities! (My daughter stood up pretty early--7 1/2 months--and didn't take her first step until she was 17 1/2 months old. She was more interested in talking than walking.) If he's not developing in *any* area, then ask your pediatrician to a development expert. An average pediatrician is *not* an expert.

This is different for every baby. Some walk at 8 or 9 months, while others don't walk until 16-17 months. I know this from experience. We have 4 kids and my sister has 3. All have started at different times-when they are ready. It's the same with potty training. One of our babies was a preemie and an occupational therapist came to the house to work to keep her on "schedule". Some of the things that we were supposed to do was limit her time in an Exersaucer/jumper to 30 min 2 times a day and absolutely no walkers. The lady said that it can sause more damage than good. We were also supposed to have her on the floor or in a playpen to encourage her to use different muscles.

Anywhere between 12 and 18 months is generally within the average range. Some babies are slower and some are faster. But if questioning babie's development talk to pediatrician and have an early intervention program evaluate. There is a chance PT or OT can help if baby is really behind or potentially has a disabilitity or developmental delays. My son is delayed. He's 16 months and not standing on his own, but I had him checked at 6 months when he was starting to lag behind the average perameters in development. He gets PT, OT and DT and is making alot of progress. Every baby is different and it's a really good thing to get them a bit of extra help with early intervention if they evaluate and decide that it will benefit.

Babies walk as early as 9 months and as late as 18 months. The average age is 13 months. Talk to your doctor about it when you go for the 12 month check up.

Boys generally do things slower than girls do. My son crawled @ 6 months, stood around 9 months and walked alone 2 weeks after his first birthday. It'll happen. Wait till potty training!!!

My daughter stood up and walked across the room one week before her first birthday. However her cousin did not do so well until about 2 months after his first birthday. Each child is different there is no set age when they accomplish this. It is when they finally learn to balance on two feet instead on knees and are willing to try on their own that they learn it

My daughter started walking at nine months and my son at ten months. I would say around age one would be the average. A few months on either side.
