Critical component missing needed to run download manager.
Any ideas?
Also, the following have ended up, mysteriously, in Recycle Bin;
My Documents, My Computer,My Desktop, My Network Places.
How do I get them back to where they belong?
And - if you would like one more challenge - why is Outlook Express always offering to compact messages, when I should have tons of space.
Machine has 1024 MB and 80GB.
Surely that is adequate space?
Thanks for any assistance.
Much appreciated.

Do a system restore:
START>ALL PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>SYSTEM TOOLS>RESTORE
click on this and restore your computer to a date before this happened, the process is pretty much self explanatory.

Outlook Express compacts messages by default. You could save yourself the trouble and use a web based email client like umm yahoo?

First - recycle bin - double click it to load it up, then highlight the ones that you want back, and right-click them, there should then be an option called restore - choose it.
Next, critical component - hopefully that will be in one of the restored ones and should now work, if not, then restore everything else.
Lastly, compacting - it askes this periodically, just ignore it, unless your mailbox is reaching the 500MB limit hard coded into outlook. To check, at the top left it says "mailbox - ", right-click it, go to properties, then folder size - if it is near 500MB then you have do do something - clear your deleted items is a good bet.

Gosh I wish I could help. My old computer did something similar a few months ago and a friend said there is only one thing to do, format the hard drive, which means to clear everything out and start again.. I hope you have saved important stuff on to discs or cds. Good luck
