There are services out there to watch TV stations on the Internet but most of them are not free.

e.g.: http://www.wwitv.com/ & http://www.beelinetv.com/

If you want to watch your live local TV channels while traveling, you could install a device that works to see your TV Channels. This is not a DVR (live feed) and your network has to be properly setup (with either a static IP Address)

Some people will talk about Windows MCE 2005. You can't watch the recorded TV nor watch the TV feed through the Internet necessarily because
1) Media Center will not work on Remote Desktop nor Terminal Services (I have 2 Media Center and have trying to make it work)
2) Depending upon the content you recorded, it could prevent you from seeing it from other computers (even you FTP over to your computer. e.g. HBO)

Remember if you are going to transfer the file, be prepared to wait for the file to transfer because the media format is like AVI (or some derivative) and are not compressed. So a 1.5 hour show is at least 4,5GB big

There are a few TV shows available for free viewing on the Internet. As the list changes daily, the best thing to do is a Google search for a show you are interested in. Normally, if the show is available, all you have to do is go to the web site and the show will automatically play for you.

you can't watch TV on net, there are some companies that provide content (like the episodes of lost in ABC.com, or youtube.com) but to actually watch TV and record it in you computer you need a TV tuner and the MCE operating system, a WIFI connection is useful with this set up and hopefully cable or satellite access

The Slingbox enables you to watch your TV programming from wherever you are by turning virtually any Internet-connected PC into your personal TV. Whether you’re in another room or in another country, you’ll always have access to your television.
