His soldiers. When Alexander the Great campaigned in India, the first Indian King he conquered, Porus, told him about many huge empires like his, with war elephants and huge armies. He also said India was very, very HUGE. Now his soldiers were scared. Who wouldn't be? They've spent roughly 18 years campaigning, and have now gone beyond the edge of the known world. They survived numerous battles, only to be told there were even larger battles looming. Crocodiles actually ate a man when he crossed a river. The soldiers said they wouldn't go any further, and Alexander sulked in his tent for 3 days, a sort of battle. They did not relent and Alexander grudgingly went back to Babylon to die. Also, drinking also sterilized him. He killed Cleitus, a life-long friend after going on a binge. Cleitus had previously saved his life. He was rumoured to have burnt down Persepolis, after being drunk. His lifespan was certainly shortened because of his long drinking sprees. But no one ever beat Alexander in any military battle. He might be the only general to say that.

In battle, Alexander the Great never suffered a military loss. On the other hand, his father, Philip II, did suffer a loss to the Phocians; however, he would fight them again and defeat them in Thessaly in 352 B.C. For Alexander, he did face mutiny in 326 B.C. at the River Hyphasis (Beas), as well as at Opis in 324 B.C. He would eventually die on July 10, 323 from an illness, which is still a matter of conjecture today.

Alexander was never defeated in battle, according to Western historians. Some Indian authors have argued that the "mutiny" was a cover to for the fact that the Indians had fought him to a standstill. Arranging for a local king, Purus, to govern the area, he could avoid further battles.

Alexander was never defeated! You had asked that before but you dint provide the Greek text you have found a reference about defeat! I will really be glad to see such a text!
Alexander is considered a military genius and he never lost a battle! He had behind him a united Greece and he used the best of it!
Alexander was from real Macedonia(or Macedon) the ancient Greek kingdom!
Don't confuse the Greek-Macedonia with the Slavic-Macedonia since they are not related at all!
(A lot of people confuse the two regions because the state of Slavic-Macedonia started to use as an international name the Greek name "Macedonia")

History books agree, he NEVER SUFFERED ANY MILITARY DEFEAT. He had a rebel officer Assembly and they begged to stop marching into India and go back to his empire, thing he finally did, only to die in his bed at age 33.
