Yes, but not because your pregnant - at least not legally. However, they can come up with other means...
Ok here's the deal. I live in Georgia. Georgia is what's known as a "Right to Work State" - That means that my company can fire me for any reason at anytime. That means they don't have to tell me why. I can file for unemployment. They can choose if they want to contest it or not but they would have to say why.
Now if you live in a right to work state, then yes, they can fire you. Since they don't have to tell you why then you'll never know if it was b/c you're pregnant.
Now, they can fire you in any state if you're doing a crappy job or if you have a shitty attitude. Most companies would write you up first or give you warnings. I have seen some companies cut hours until the employee cannot afford to work there and quits (this way the company doesn't have to pay unemployment).
Again, it's relative to your state and your company. I would say in short, the answer is YES. If your attitude sucks or you can't do your job, they'll come up with a way to fire you.
The problem is that it's almost impossible to prove that you were fired b/c you were pregnant (same goes for sexual harassment). The evidence has to be overwhelming. It's really hard to prove cases like those.
(Ignore the people who responded and said to 'sue'. They have no clue as to what they're talking about. You could find a lawyer who will waste your time and your money, but I'm telling you - It's a case that is really hard to prove so you'd have to have evidence, ie. documentation and witnesses, and even then it's a not a sure thing. People are too sue happy these days. It's a waste of tax money, so the courts are now more skeptical)
Good Luck!

No I went through this whole situation, they can not fire you for the reasons. It is then considered discrimination. They can't even fire you for being grumpy, it has to be for a good reason like if your grumpy and cursing at people or if you are causing problems with workers even if you are not doing your job, thee best thing to do is ask for maternity leave I had to do that and any job cannot refuse that, and you are allowed up to 6 weeks after birth to start again they can not deny you work under the circumstances.

Yes. They can fire you with or without reason...grumpy or not grumpy...pregnant or not pregnant, except in countries where it is illegal to fire a pregnant woman for any reason. I was fired from a job in the US when I was 8 months pregnant. They tried to convince the unemployment office that I was fired for cause--but lost. (I had a really good Legal Aid lawyer!!) And I wasn't even grumpy!!

not for being pregnant and most likely not even for being grumpy. To say someone has a bad attitude that doesn't fit with the position or the company is a little far fetched. But I think any good smart company will know that the idea of discrimination might be brought up and I doubt they would risk that.

Not for being pregnant, but yes to being grumpy if your attitude effects the work environment. Smile, laugh. Life is too short to be grumpy especailly when you are about to be a mom, this should be a wonderful experience for you, not miserable.

They can fire you for being disrespect full to a boss or fellow worker. I doubt they will though because if they have any sense at all they will realize that while a woman is pregnant her hormones are raging and it can cause mood swings. Just explain to your boss and coworkers that you don't mean to be rude to them it's just at this time of your pregnancy can be very stressful and most likely they will understand. P.S I hope you have a smooth pregnancy and you have a healthy and happy baby. Stay strong you wont be pregnant forever even though it may feel that way at times :)

well, i guess they could fire you for the grumpiness part if you're really hormonal and try to beat someone for saying you look pregnant or something.

If your grumpiness is rubbing off on other coworkers thus compromising their performance at work and your condition is affecting your job performance.........YES !!
If you don't feel well. Stay home !! Only come to work when you can guarantee your boss quality work. Otherwise....watch THE LUCY SHOW or your favorite program and relax.
NOTE: It's not your employers fault that you got KNOCKED UP.

yes they can fire you if you are grumpy towards other workers or customers, but no they CANT fire you because your are prago. if they do fire you they would have a large problem on their hands. just keep calm, keep your job and just let everyone know you apologize if you may step on their toes or even if they step on yours remind them you are prago then they should understand. but always try to keep your cool with anyone at any job unless it is something that needs to been done about.
good luck now and throughout your pregnacy
