Just curious, how many of you feel that you are more mature and wise than those your same age. I know being gay I am much more open minded than my friends and am much more accepting and understanding. Anyone else feel like a life experience has molded you into this kind of person? I feel like a 30 year old in a 22 year old body lol :)

i understand you, but while i'm not a member of the LGBT community (unless you count A), i am a racial minority. and after having discussions about this very thing with my friends that are LGBT, i think that there is often a common bond amongst many minority groups (no matter what the divide actually is), and wisdom may be it. *while people may be tired of always hearing about race, hear me out.*

my professors ask how i grasped sociology so quickly, but it was just because certain things were never a mystery to me, and i know that it's because being a minority has given me certain experiences that shape how i think.

i think that parallel can be drawn to the LGBT community. because of general society's stance on gay issues, often you kind of have to grow up quick, and have an understanding of things. i think it's a coping mechanism or something. i've tasted hatred before, and so i forced myself to try to understand what fuels it, and ended up growing exponentially from it. it also made me learn about other people as well.

while i just turned 21, my mid-life crisis is in the horizon

Oh wise one. I turn 40 in a month. I look like a 28 year old and feel 18. Yet due to life and it's lessons taught I feel wise beyond my years. The dali Lama has nothing on me.

Yes, I often feel wise beyond my years. I'm very open-minded and family and friends have told me that I have an old soul. Very thoughtful of the Earth and all animals that live on it.

With a good sense of humor too.

Peace, Love, & Happiness Baby. :-)~

i definitely do.

i feel that my being gay has caused me to deal with more things at a younger age which eventually led to me growing up a lot faster than anyone else i know. i'm turning seventeen soon and i feel like i've experienced so much of the world.

besides experience, i think i've got a lot more opinions that are logical and full of intelligence. i think my taste in movies and music and things are a lot more advanced than the tastes of those my age.

Im with you on this one. I usually feel that the rest of the world sees things through blinders. Since coming out in 2002, i feel that i see things more clearly than those around me.

Because I am different, ive learned lessons about being strong and courageous in the face of those who threaten harm to me b/c i choose to live by different rules, and yet, i can laugh.

Also, i have found that i fear very little. Prior to coming out, i lived in a world of fear, and now i realize that fear is an illusion.

I agree with feeling more mature and soemtimes knowing more about life. I think it's because we have to experience so much in accepting ourselves and coming out compared to our peers of the same age.

i do.

the only people i know who are as open-minded and accepting as me are also queer. and it's not just that: i have an awareness of a lot of things--of things not being what they seem, of the great variation and diversity of people, of the nuances of the human psyche--a lot of which i've gained from my experience of my own homosexuality and my experience of others who fall into the queer spectrum.

most non-queer people i know don't have that awareness, and so a lot of them are perfectly content to attack people--verbally, even physically--for not fitting into the world they so ignorantly believe is out there.

i often wonder what they'll do if they go to college, a big city, or another country. i don't think they'll know what to do.

Heh, I'm always being told that I'm mature for my age.
I always feel like I'm 30 or so, although I'm gonna be 17. :P
