A furturistic society which is supposed to be a Utopia, everyone gets along and no one has any problems. The point of the book is that reading leads to knowledge and knowledge leads to individualism and hense an uprising. When guy starts to read you notice a distinct change in his mannerism, he becomes more rebellious and therefore becomes an enemy of the state. The people at the end of the book (the hobbose) represent all the famous scientists and such that were shund from society or even persecuted for their ideas.

Other books you might be interested in if you liked this one are Soylent Green and 1984. (i highly recommend 1984, it is a literary masterpiece.)

Fahrenheit 451 takes place in a dystopic future where books are banned. The main character is a "fireman", though his job is to set things ablaze rather than douse the flames. (This works because all buildings are fireproof.)

His main gig is destroying books. Despite the endless attempts to destroy all books, people still hoard them.
