it's a athletic endeavor that involves competition and rules. You try walking several miles for four straight days in 90 degree heat under the strutiny of crowds that the pressure of competition. Hitting a golf ball 300 yards requires much ability and strength and body control. It's not the bruteness of football or the speed of basketball, but don't try to tell me they aren't atheletes. They train and practice like everyone else because in golf you only earn money if you play well, unlike the other major sports.

It's not really, unless walking & croquet are sports as well - but it's a heck of a game that takes a ton of skill
