Why do you think illegal immigrants that enter the U.S. from Mexico are doing it illegally and not going through the process the legal way?

...i know illegal/undocumented Mexicans are coming here for jobs, money, a better life etc...but that isn't my question...

my question is...why are they coming here illegally, rather than going thru the process 'LEGALLY' ??

have they tried the legal process but were denied?
have they tried the legal process but find its taking too long?
have they not tried it at all? and if not... why? Why would they choose dangerous Coyote smugglers, hot desert heat, and risk it all to avoid going thru a welcoming legal process?

also....who is to blame? The US? Mexican Government?

Please answer...thanks.

They are suppose to apply for a card that permits them to work here and it is only good for a period of time, if they want to stay they should apply for citizenship and go thru the proccess, allot of them let the card expire and stay (now they are really illegal) and some chose not to do anything, just sneak into the country, it's not that hard..... If they don't want to be a citizen and take the time it takes to do it, go home... Our laws are the laws, the US should take a look at the proccess but, till then, they should obey the law. They get free medical, even illegal, YOU don't but, you pay for it. They get allot of benefits that you don't and I take it you are a citizen, you pay for it. YOU pay taxes, they don't, oh, they pay tax when they buy something, so what, so do you! They pay the IRS into a fake account that holds the money till who knows when and nobody gets it, do you work? Do you know that the Social Security is in trouble? What will you retire on? What if that money could be released? If they went thru the proccess and paid LEGAL taxes, they could retire and draw too but, they don't want to pay for you to retire, they want to take the money back to Mexico and you get nothing!!!!!! Have fun when you get old and you can't get into a hospital and they are already in FOR FREE. I have nothing against them but, they have to obey the laws like you and I do, you and I go to jail or prison, they are released, right back into OUR COUNTRY! Another thing is that the criminals in Mexico don't want to go to jail there, it is horrible so, they come here to committ MORE CRIMES and get away with it, they can't be tracked, there is no record of them ever existing. Hope YOU don't meet them in a dark street, you hurt one (he gets fixed in your hospital), they hurt you and you have no insurance, good luck, you die waiting to get into the hospital while they get out and released right back into our society! Send them back, they return, too easy!!!!!!!!

Especially since 9/11, the United States has made it extremely difficult for any person from any country to immigrate. Even obtaining visas for tourism, family visits, education or business is very difficult and very slow.

Mexico is one of many countries which the US has targeted with severe immigration restrictions and near-impossible visa terms. Others include all the former Republics of the old USSR and Russia, China, the Phillipines, Central and South American states and virtually every African country.

The US imposed a world-wide "quota" on how many persons could legally be allowed to immigrate - it is about 1/10th of the actual flow of migrants to the US.

If all immigration were successfully restricted to those persons allowed to move to the US to live and work, virtually every one would be upper-middle-class, holding an advanced university degree or a work skill of exceptionally rare and desirable type, and most likely planning to return to his or her native land after some years of working in the US. Only a very few would be allowed to come to live in the US to be with family members.

In order to obtain the permits for this, people must spend a considerable sum of money for paperwork, travel to American embassies or consular offices, have substantial money in the bank already, and be prepared to wait for years - sometimes, 5 to 15 years. Even processing tourist visa applications can take more than a year.

Illegal immigration is the result of many factors - political and/or social unrest, economic distress, personal motivations, and of course a US immigration policy and system that is completely unrealistic and incompetent.

It is not that easy to get here legally. Wherever did you get the idea that there is a welcoming legal process to allow foreigners to come here to work? Just try applying for a visa and you would find out how difficult it is.

I would think it's easier and faster just to crawl across the border. Obviously that doesn't apply to everyone, but still.
