When you buy an American car, the profits stay in the US. When you buy a foreign car, the profits go overseas.

We have an enormous trade deficit. Buy a foreign car and you are the cause. Economics are that simple.

Well, in all honesty, a lot of the parts are shared with overseas companies anyways. For example, the Saturn Vue (I think...it's the truck) runs a Honda motor, and a Mazda is for the most part a Ford.

You just need to take a look at Consumer Reports. They're great for getting into the details about cars...price, maintenance costs, reliability, etc. Some of the car magazines will do this as well, and even keep them for a certain number of years and continuously update them.

Anymore, the whole 'American cars aren't better than foreign ones' isn't totally true anymore.

Because, more so than any other car you consider, it meets your needs at a price you're willing to pay.

I assume you're asking if the question is relevant due to the waning campaign to "Buy American" - or, something similar? If that's the case, the question isn't relevant - in fact, we now know that the question never was relevant.

I bought a new Honda in 1986 and I still have it it is build well and I never had a problem. I bought a new 2001 half ton siverado at 15000 miles I noticed the tires wearing it was using oil and making a noise when it was started and the gas pedal was sticking when you gave it gas from a start. I went to the service manager who told me every thing was normal. I went to factory rep. Who told me it was normal to use a qt oil every 1000 miles and the noise was normal and because I didn't rotate my tires at 7500 they wouldn't align my truck. The bottom line is I will never buy a American vehicle again

What's an American car? Most of these so called American cars are 50% or better made outside the U.S.A. And Badly I might ad.

There are very, very few new cars(cars?) I'd even own today, whether foreign or domestic. I drive old Detroit Iron, Classics, Muscle Cars, Hot Rods, Customs. I'd rather pay for the gas than drive a fancy go-cart.

I'm finding out there are very few cars made in American that have a good track record. My next car will be a Toyota or a Honda, they have great track records, resale is good better than Amercing made cars, insurance is cheaper, better on gas.
